SI-120 Motherboard Compatibility Information

Intel P4 socket 478 plaform

SI-120 is designed to fit all Intel Pentium 4 socket 478 motherboards. So far, we have not found any board that is not compatible with SI-120. SI-120 will fit all Intel Pentium 4 socket 478 motherboards. The only exception is ABIT AI7 board due to the socket orientation. If you've found any, we would appreciate if you could report them to here.

Intel P4 socket T (LGA775) Platform

With a customized LGA 775 adapter kit, SI-120 can be installed on a Intel Pentium 4 socket T motherboard. So far, we have not found any board that is not compatible with SI-120. We would appreciate if you could report them to here.

AMD socket 754/939/940 platform

SI-120 is designed to fit all AMD socket 754/939/940 motherboards (*Gigabyte K8 motherboards see below). The only motherboard issue we have found so far is with Chaintech VNF4 Ultra s939 as one of the capacitors gets in the way of the wire clip to lock into the RM. If you've found any, we would appreciate if you could report them to here.

Another possible issue is with Tyan’s S2895 Dual Opteron, but it can be worked out by tilting the capacitor (one in the row next to chipset heatsink) 2~3mm away. Modifiers do this (tilting the capacitor) at their own discretion.

Since the Asrock (and Gigabyte) K8 boards use push-pin type RM's, there is no backplate in the back of motherboard to support Thermalright’s customized RM.  You will need to purchase separately a metal K8 backplate.

* Unlike other motherboard makers, Gigabyte uses a customized plastic motherboard backplate for its K8 motherboards, which is not compatible with SI-120 K8 retention bracket. Users need to remove it and replace it with a standard metal backplate before installation of Thermalright XP series heatsink. ** Large fan bearing heatsinks (80-92-120mm) can encounter problems with motherboards with sockets close to the edge of the motherboard and some cases with power supply brackets. Another potential problem with these types of motherboards can be large fans mounted in the bottom of the power supply and without the fan drills recessed.
