IFX-14 has a
backplate that you claim to be multi-compatible across multiple platforms but
can it be installed with other Thermalright heatsinks?
Answer
:
Due to the unique design of the IFX-14, the 775 part of
the multi-platform backplate can only work with IFX-14. But a plan for another
multi-compatible backplate is in the development to work with Thermalright
HR-series, Ultra-series, and SI-128 on Socket 775, AM2, and 939. This will be
sold separately as an accessory part.
IFX-14 is said to
come with HR-10. Can other heatsinks work with it? How are the actual
results?
Answer
:
Yes, the HR-10
can also work with other Thermalright CPU heatsink series. However, you will
need to use the new upcoming backplate in order to install. In our lab tests,
after installing the HR-10 with the IFX-14, CPU temperature was at least 3
Celsius degrees better (with HR-10 running passively without a fan).
I don¡¦t mind the
fan noise so exactly how many fans can I install on an IFX-14?
Answer
:
You can
install as many as three of 120mm x 25mm low noise, high air volume fans. But we
do not recommend doing so since having three large fans could risk damaging your
motherboard due to the extra weight.
The IFX-14 seems
to have many accessory parts. Will it be difficult for me to install it? I¡¦m
only a novice.
Answer
:
Installing the IFX-14 is actually a cinch. The many accessory parts that
you see are for your options to install on different platforms. A mini wrench is
also provided for your convenience and for that easy installation.
The fins of
IFX-14 are quite big. Will they be big enough to cool without a
fan?
Answer
:
IFX-14 contrary to the
HR-series was not designed to run passively without a fan. IFX-14 relies heavily
on air flow for maximum performance. We strongly recommend installing at least
one 120mm fan for your IFX-14.
